Aiding Autism Printed Book

Updated: Jun 9

What is Autism?

I have been working on this project for several months now and it’s finally come together!

This is the Aiding Autism book for supporting parent and carers of children with Autism.

The book includes various resources and activities to incorporate into your child’s learning journey at home to assist and narrow the bridge between school learning and home life. If your child attends a school, its likely they are carrying out some of these activities, (depending on your child’s individual learning capability).

There is a huge misconception that schools are going to be able to ‘cure’ a child’s conditions and it actually takes both home and school to work cohesively and consistently to show progress in the child's learning. What’s the saying: “It takes a village to raise a child”.

Understanding what Autism is

The first step is to educate yourselves and really understand what it is your child has and needs help and support with:

"Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world… There is no proper scientific evidence of any kind that any products or therapies 'cure' autism." - National Autistic Society

Autism can present differently in children: an early sign in autism could be a delay or difference in speech and language development and communication. Others, on the autism spectrum may also have reduced non-verbal communication, and may not point or gesture.

There is a section of basic communication cards in the pack which can be useful with non verbal children or child which struggle to comprehend tasks.

Chapter X, are pre writing worksheets to assist children with motor skill delays and can also be useful for ‘nuerotypical’* children in early years making that transition into handwriting.

Each activity has been handpicked to assist children in some form of their development.
